Ripon Police Department-Ripon Fire Department-Press Release

DIESEL TRUCK TRANSPORTING CHEMICALS CATCHES FIRE IN RIPON

On 02-26-09, at 0356 hours, the Ripon Police Department received a 911 call reporting a diesel truck was on fire at the Flying J Truck Plaza(1501 N. Jack Tone Rd.) in Ripon Ca.

Ripon Police and Fire Departments officers arrived within minutes and they observed a truck-trailer-rig on fire, driving out of the truckers' lot. The driver appeared to be moving the burning vehicle away from the other trucks in the area. The Ripon Fire Department was notified and they quickly responded to the scene.

Ripon officers questioned the driver of the burning truck. They were advised the truck was hauling 40,000 pounds of chemicals. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Due to the nature of the fire, the Ripon Police Department and the Ripon Fire Department worked closely in a Joint-Command structure, to safeguard lives. Access to the area was controlled, and several local residents were advised to Shelter-in-place.

The California Office of Emergency Services arrived on scene to assess the situation. Hazardous materials crews arrived on the scene to begin the clean-up process.

The fire is being jointly investigated by the Ripon Fire and Police Departments.

4 Ripon High teens arrested following lunch hour attack

Ripon PD Press Release:

On February 18, at 11:50 AM, the Ripon Police Department received a report of a fight that had occurred in the 500 block of Key Ave. When officers arrived on scene all participants were gone from the area. Officers were unable to identify the victims (17 year old and 16 year old Ripon High School students) until later in the evening. Both victims had minor abrasions and cuts to their face, head, and arms.

Through an investigation School Resource Officer Matt Ford learned that while walking to the Ripona Market during school lunch, a group of four male subjects that attend Ripon High School confronted the two victims, by calling them names and cursing at them, with some of the language being used as derogatory gang terms. The four juveniles then began to attack the two victims. The four suspects fled the scene shortly after the attack.

Officer Ford, members of the Special Investigations Unit, and Detectives identified the suspects and arrested them on the next day as they attended Ripon High School. The suspects are three 16 year olds and a 15 year old, Ripon residents. The four suspects are known to the department as being associated with a criminal street gang.

The four suspects were booked into San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall on charges of Battery on a Person, Fight in a Public Place, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, and a Gang Enhancement. The 15 year old suspect was also charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Ripon PD were ready and waiting for armed robbers

The Ripon PD were ready and waiting when they received the BOL on Monday February 16, 2008 for 3 men who had been involved in an armed robbery at a Tracy service station. Per a Manteca Bulletin article, around 5:30am, Ripon PD staged patrol cars at each of the off- ramps that led to gas stations in Ripon. One was posted near the Jack Tone truck stop and the other was located at a Shell gas station which was at the exit of the north highway 99 off-ramp. Per the Manteca Bulletin article:

Ripon officer Trevor McGinnis was first to spot a 2007 black Honda sedan exiting the northbound lanes of Highway 99, near the Shell station at East Main Street, with three male occupants. Eye contact was made between the two drivers and the car made a left turn onto the frontage road and headed westbound, Merchant said.

McGinnis noticed the car had no license plates and gave chase, calling for the backup of other units. Sgt. Merchant said the men pulled off the frontage road and turned onto Acacia Avenue where they turned off their headlights with the Ripon officer activating his emergency lights, pulling in behind them.

They were arrested without incident as four other Ripon units responded to the scene along with officers from Modesto and the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. Ripon Sgt. Don Luthey located a chrome semi-automatic hand gun in the center console between the front seats. It appeared to be loaded, police said. Deputies arrived on the scene in Ripon and made a positive identification of the suspects after viewing the security video at the Tracy service station.

Arrested for suspicion of armed robbery were two Hispanic males and one Asian male. Taken to San Joaquin County Jail were Sandeep Sing, 21, and Ramon Anthony Lor, 18, both of Stockton, in addition to a 17-year-old youth, also from Stockton. The juvenile was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center and charged with four counts of armed robbery and conspicary.

Lor and Singh were also charged with conspiracy and booked into San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp in lieu of $180,000 bail each.

Per the Ripon Police Department, 18 armed robberies have been cleared by this arrest and that number is expected to increase as the investigation continues.

Ripon PD assist in multi agency arrest

Source: Recordnet.com

RIPON - Police on Monday arrested two men and a 17-year-old boy who are suspected in a string of store robberies in San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Alameda counties.

Ramon Anthony Lor, 18, and Sandeep Singh, 21, were booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of conspiracy and robbery. The minor was taken to the San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall on similar charges. Singh also was booked on a warrant out of Indiana.

At 4:40 a.m. Monday, sheriff's deputies responded to a report that a clerk working at the 76 Station at 34243 S. Chrisman Road in Tracy had been robbed at gunpoint. Police said the clerk told them that the gunman fled in a black Honda Accord with no license plate.

According to Tracy and Lodi police, there recently were several similar robberies involving a car that matched the getaway car's description.

Less than an hour after the Tracy robbery, Ripon police found a vehicle that matched the description of the one in the robbery stopped at Highway 99 and Acacia Avenue in Ripon. Lor, Singh and the teen were detained until sheriff's deputies arrived and identified Lor from surveillance video taken at the Tracy gas station, police said. During an investigation of the car, a firearm, money and stolen property were found, police said.

Agencies involved in the capture - Lodi, Tracy, Ripon, Modesto and Livermore police departments - are each pursuing investigations.

RiponWatch to officially sign off March 1, 2009

Well, it's official. RiponWatch will be signing off on Sunday March 1, 2009. Although I had originally planned to continue RiponWatch through November, my various community service commitments has required me to set priorities and make some difficult choices.  Choices that include taking RiponWatch.com offline. Anyone who has run a 24 hour blog knows just how much time and energy it takes to maintain an up-to-the-minute website. To do it well requires a 24 hour commitment. Since day one, RiponWatch has been about providing an online Neighborhood Bulletin Board highlighting community events with an emphasis on local crime and safety news. RiponWatch has always been free and not a single dime has ever been earned. Payment has come in the form of friendships, partnerships, and emails from RiponWatch supporters.

I hope that you have enjoyed RiponWatch as much as I have, and I encourage anyone who has the desire to make a difference to follow your passion and never give up. Patience and persistence will always prevail and struggles are just part of the journey to better things.-Lisa Suender Founder & Editor of RiponWatch.com
